"If we see the vegetarian issue beyond simply our personal health and well-being to its direct impact on the destiny of our planet, then I think it's good for us to give a little service to the veggie cause."
--Glen McLean, founder VOA
Through Glen's dedication, as well as that of Claire Lafreniere, Margaret Marean, and David Parker, VOA has blossomed into a strong organization of over 200 members and volunteers.

Edmonton has a number of veggie-friendly businesses. VOA encourages individuals to purchase locally-made, organic, fair trade certified, and ethically-produced goods and services from locally-owned businesses. Below are a few of the businesses that are doing one or all of these actions.

Despite being in the middle of "cattle country", almost every restaurant and café in Edmonton has a few vegetarian dishes on the menu. Vegan menu items are harder to come by, but there are many places with amazing vegan food!
To celebrate World Vegetarian Day on October 1st 2008, VOA will publish the 2nd Edition of Edmonton's Vegan & Vegetarian Diner's Guide, which highlights some of the veggie-friendly restaurants and cafés! Inside the pocket-sized Guide, you'll find:

Upcoming events are listed at the bottom of this page.
VOA revolves around meeting new friends, sharing good food and learning about our individual opportunities to live a harmless and responsible lifestyle. To this end, VOA holds monthly potluck dinners, frequent Diner's Club outings and supports various community events!
Potluck dinners happen on the second Sunday of each month. (If the second Sunday falls on a holiday weekend, the potluck is moved to the third Sunday.) Two or three tables display the many colourful and appetizing vegetarian, vegan or raw vegan dishes that everyone has prepared! Occasionally, after the meal, a guest speaker shares some knowledge on a veg-related topic.
