I was wondering now if I was way off base: ***************** Although I am completely in agreement that non-human animals deserve a better life, I am troubled by this petition and am hesitant to sign it for the following reasons: - You exclude humans and "people" from the classification "animal." This sort of wording simply reinforces the notion of human supremacy, and that personhood *necessarily* entails humanity. - One of your key points is that many humans rely directly on non-humans for survival. This is one of the key reasons that so many non-humans suffer: to serve us. Perhaps it would make more sense to reduce our dependence on animal food and -for a lack of a better term- slave labour. I recognise that this is a declaration on "animal welfare" rather than "animal rights," but I believe that addressing these issues will make your argument much stronger and coherent. ****************
